My friends back yard in Pojoaque NM
11" x 14" SOLD Paducah KYWe would put our food in the round ovens called Hornos, in her back yard. After we had built a fire to heat the ovens, we cleaned them out and tested them by throwing small papers into see how long they took to burn. When it cooled down to the right temperature, we would put our ham, corn, potatoes, etc. in the ovens and put a wet burlap bag over the opening and seal it up with mud. Later that evening we opened the door, took our food out ate our dinner.
I have helped make many of these ovens, but I would get carried away and put broken pottery or mirrors on mine as folk art.
